4 inch LED Recessed Downlight easy, quick retrofit for 75-watt compatible
Saves 84% over a 65W incandescent bulb
MaxLite's LED 4" Recessed Downlight Retrofit replaces a standard can light fixture with only 12 watts of power, saves 85% over a 50-watt incandescent light and lasts 20 times longer. The payback is only one year or less, based on 3 hours per day usage. After that, it's money in your pocket.
An LED Downlight Can Retrofit is a one-piece fixture that includes a die-case aluminum heat sink, along with integrated trim. It fits inside your existing 4" can light and connects directly to the power supply with a medium Edison 26 base. The existing light bulb and trim piece should be removed. Installation time is about two minutes.
But, most importantly, LED Downlight Retrofit Cans come with a color accuracy (CRI) of 81 which makes colors look more realistic. The optical diffuser produces high-lumen transmission of 760 lumens in a warm white color of 2700K (CCT). LED Downlight Can Retrofits may be used in kitchens, living and dining rooms, bathrooms, and virtually anywhere normal downlights are used. They are suitable for damp locations and are dimmable down to 10 percent. Special dimmers may be required; see overview and features below.
So why not just replace the bulb in my can light with a more efficient LED light bulb? Why did they bother making a retrofit can anyway? Good questions. The retrofit cans look nicer, cleaner and are a little more efficient. They also disperse light a little better, and they last longer due to the way they reduce heat. So, if you don't want to pay the extra for the retrofit, you can certainly replace your existing inefficient bulbs with more efficient BR20 or PAR30 LED if you prefer. Our experience is that once you see how much nicer they look, you will want the replacement cans instead. Also, utility companies award larger rebates for fixtures than they do for light bulbs, so the after-rebate cost is not that much different.
Unlike incandescents, halogens and compact fluorescents (CFLs), LED lamps create light without wasting energy in the form of heat. They run much cooler and can be handled without gloves. If they break, they don't cause panic, because there's no mercury inside like in most CFL bulbs. They also turn on and off instantly, without wearing out a filament or flickering like in CFLs.
All of MaxLite's products are Energy Star rated which means they are UL listed and LM-79 certified to the highest standards of efficiency and luminous efficacy. This product comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
LEDs may cost more initially than incandescent or CFL bulbs, but due to falling prices, they are an excellent investment that will save you money immediately, and will probably never require that you change a light bulb again.
If you own can lights, in two minutes you can easily swap out these LED can retrofits. You don't need an electrician for this task. My 89-year-old mother bought 6 retrofits, and my brother installed them so she would never have to climb a 10 foot ladder again. With the high quality of light and low initial cost, there's no excuse for not upgrading now with these LED Downlight Retrofits.
Features & benefits
Low operating cost/big savings — save 87% on energy; payback in approximately 1 year; average operating cost is $1.51 per year, depending on rates and usage
High-efficiency — 72 lumens per watt (lum/W) vs. 11 lum/w for incandescents and 60 lum/w for CFLs
Safer — contains no mercury, ultra-low EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) or dirty electricity
Reduces cooling costs in summer — operates much cooler; requires less air conditioning
Longer-lasting — no filament or ballast to burn out from over heating; lasts approximately 30 years or 35,000 hours vs. 1,000 hours for incandescents and 10,000 hours for CFLs (based on 3 hrs. per day)
Less lumen degradation — over time, LEDs lose up to 30% of their light output while incandescents and CFLs lose 50% or more
Accurate color — close to incandescents in color, but much more accurate color rendering than CFLs
Dimmable — can be dimmed with the following dimmers without loss of color:
Lutron LGCL-153CL 600W, Lutron MAW-600H-WH 600W, Lutron S-600PR-WH 600W, Lutron DV-603PR 600W, Lutron DV-603P600W, Lutron S-600 600W, Leviton IPL06 600W, Leviton S-600P-WH, Leviton6631-LA 600W, Leviton 6684 600W, GE 18024 600W, TOP HCL453PTC, TOP HCL453PW
Easy-to-install — remove light and trim and install directly to power supply--2 minutes
Use almost anywhere — indoors or outdoors, or anywhere good lighting is needed
Soft warm-white appearance — like a traditional incandescent, no harsh white or strange blue light
Warranted — 5-year warranty
Energy Star — UL listed and LM-79 certified
Rebate-qualified — these are classified as fixtures which usually qualifies for larger rebates from utility companies
Qualifies for LEED points — up to 16 points for energy and atmosphere, indoor environmental quality, sustainable sites, innovation and design process
