Natural, renewable, and sustainable

Unlike wallpaper made with vinyl or other synthetic materials, Dekwall is made from 100% natural cork. Cork trees are often called the green lung of the world because they sequester 73 tons of carbon dioxide for each ton of cork produced, making them one of the most sustainable raw materials.

The bark of the cork oak tree is removed every 8-10 years without hampering its growth. This process continues for about 200 years making cork one of the most renewable and precious natural resources. The bark is then fabricated into wine stoppers, flooring, wall coverings, fabrics, shoes and numerous other commercial items.

Quietness and warmth

Cork’s great secret lies in its elasticity and resiliency to sound. The bark of the cork oak tree contains millions of air-filled honeycomb cells per cubic inch which accounts for the acoustic and thermal insulating properties. Add Dekwall to any wall and say goodbye to chilly rooms and noisy neighbors or children.

Living breathable walls

Yet another impressive feature of cork is that it helps modulate humidity by absorbing moisture and releasing it later. That’s why it’s often used in wine rooms and humidors, as well as accent walls in rec rooms, living rooms, and bedrooms, above, at, or below grade. It is made without formaldehyde adhesives and emits no VOCs. Dekwall creates a soft rich feeling that inspires and relaxes your senses.

Hide imperfections

Rather than re-painting or wallpapering your walls, why not use Dekwall instead? Due to the thickness and opaqueness of the cork tile, it will cover up small imperfections more easily than painting or wallpapering. In addition, it completely changes the texture of the wall and improves the overall feeling in the room.

Easy to apply and clean

Dekwall is very lightweight and can be adhered to your wall or ceiling using pressure-sensitive adhesive. The manufacturer recommends WAKOL D 3540 (This is the only adhesive that will not shrink the tile). WAKOL D 3540 is a non-toxic, zero VOC adhesive that comes in one-gallon pails covering about 180 SF. The adhesive should be applied with a ⅜” nap roller.

WAKOL D 3540 can be applied over most porous and non-porous surfaces such as: painted or primed drywall, concrete, concrete block, hemp block, wooden surfaces, plywood, and OSB. However, it is not approved for use over petroleum-based cutback adhesive or ceramic tile.

Cleaning is a breeze because the surface is waxed which repels dust and dirty fingers. Should you even need to, simply wipe with a damp cloth.

How is it purchased?

Dekwal is purchased in boxes of 22 SF. Each box contains 11 pieces that are 11 ⅞” tall x 23 ⅞” wide. There are six colors available with a matt sheen.

Note: Bumpy or highly textured walls with dips and bumps (especially mortar lines in concrete block) should be filled and smoothed out first with drywall mud or concrete patching compounds and allowed to dry for 24 hours. You may need to use more adhesive to ensure good bonding if the surface is rough. Application over small nail or screw holes is not an issue. Please follow the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
