Alert: In the spirit of transparency, the manufacturer states on its label: "Warning, this product contains a chemical (N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, NMP) known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm" According to the manufacturer of SoyGel, there has been a study in California which applied NMP at 100% strength on pregnant rodents for a month, with frequent re-applications to make sure it was still on their skin. The test resulted in smaller size babies. No tests have been conducted on the 40-45% strength used in SoyGel, as requested by the manufacturer. Of course there are no tests on humans. Although the warning for NMP is required only by the State of California, the manufacturer has chosen to include the warning on product sold in all 50 states.
